Three Sisters - background

What is the general plot of Three Sisters

Why are the women unfaithful and in control of relationships

The character I've been cast as is Masha in Act 2.

What does Masha think of everyone?

I believe that Masha sees her town as a trap or a rat cage, I've understood this is because a majority of the people there don't change in the sense of their mindset; They don't look beyond what they already know. That's why in (Act 1 she sings David Bowie's 'Golden years' which 'Don't let me hear you say life's taking you nowhere
Masha is hungry for culture and for knowledge, where many people are afraid of the unknown she is drawn to it, however, she isn't finding any answers in her town. (Act 2 'we have to believe in something'....). She falls in love with Vershinin because he also sees the way life is there; it is a mad cycle that shouldn't be accepted, (Act 2 ' We hate our wives...'). Back to the point,  he confided in her with his truth. He thinks outside the box, speaks on sensitive and real matters that apply to both him and Masha, even if it's a harsh reality. The reality is that they both have partners of their own who do not fulfil them anymore, Masha and Vershinin believe there must be more meaning to life than just marriage and nothing after but lies. They are both loyal to their happiness and fulfilment ( act 2 Masha explains why she married her husband in the first place)... So even if they are married their hunger for broader horizons are strong .....Masha Believes in a higher being or creator, she encourages the people around her to try to question the meaning of life, (Act 2 why are there are stars in the sky) Because of her unique mind and thoughts, she sees the others around her as inferior as they are not looking for something new just familiarity.

How does this affect Masha's behaviour

What does everyone think of Masha?

I believe a majority of the characters find her quite stuck up, this is because they don't quite understand her reasons to question everything in existence. Vershinin admires the fieriness & hunger she possesses, and also the way she presents and carries herself.
' i love the way you move' - act 2
She clashes with the elderly. I think this is because they are slow, and are used to a specific routine and way of life that just doesn't interest her. (60 year old man mimics her)... i think this shows that he thinks she's always whining and complaining in general, when the reality is she's actually fed up of the same old, boring and repetitive lifestyle that the civilians have become accustomed to and have lead for many years.

Natasha...

how does this affect Masha's behaviour

What are Mashas objectives:

to live in Moscow... why? (People, weather, culture)
new life
excitement and adventure
stimulating mind conversations ( spiritually and philosophy)

Feedback from rehearsals.
