monologue

A woman of no importance We are trying to build up life, Lady Hunstanton, on a better, truer, purer basis than life rests on here. This sounds strange to you all, no doubt. How could it sound other than strange? You rich people in England, you don't know how  you are living. How could you know? You shut out from your society the gentle and the good. You laugh at the simple and the pure. Living, as you all do, on others and by them, you sneer at self-sacrifice, and if you throw bread to the poor, it is merely to keep them quiet for a season. With all your pomp and wealth and art you don't know how to live - you don't even know that. You love the beauty that you can see and touch and handle, the beauty that you can destroy, and do destroy, but of the unseen beauty of life, of the unseen beauty of a higher life, you know nothing. You have lost life's secret. Oh, your English society seems to me shallow, selfish, foolish. It has blinded its eyes, and stopped its...

Unit 11: Essay

~Ilonka Flora DOES ARONOFSKY'S 2017 FILM 'MOTHER!' DEPICT THE TRUE NATURE OF MAN AND SOCIETY? Aronofsky's 2017 'Mother!', will not meet or miss your expectations, but instead, crush it with everything and anything you think you know about film and structure. This psychological horror was not made for everyone. It does not comfort the viewer.  There are no monsters, no ghosts or demons, just an ominous truth, Aronofsky's truth. The last events from the film even had people walking out of the movie. 'he has stretched the envelope of outrageous mainstream cinema to breaking point – and beyond.' - The Guardian  In the beginning, a husband, a wife, a big, rustic, isolated and authentic house, Jennifer Lawrence as 'Mother' and Javier Bardem as 'Him', are living peacefully married in the middle of nowhere. It is made clear throughout the film that 'him' is a poet with writer's block and Mother is the person who has d...

christmas carol

Image
9th September We were introduced to the play we were to perform in December, A Christmas carol. We began to discuss what we already know about this story. We did this by brainstorming the themes that the play brings ... and also we wrote a simplified synopsis of the play to show our understanding of the play and also we were able to detect any missing crucial information by comparing it to the script. We watched a 1951 film and discussed our ideas. 19th Septemeber On this day we worked on a dramatic freeze-frame which is also known as a tableau, which is usually used to describe a vivid living scene. We first worked on the opening tableau which includes nearly everyone, its the first thing we want the audience to see, and interpret, we then begin to gradually bleed off the stage, letting the play flow. The second tableau worked on was a party scene, we then begin to dance in sync, we did this by paying attention to each other. We learnt a similar technique earlier in March ...

Pros and cons of higher education

Pros and cons of higher education PROS Attending higher education increases your chances of getting a higher paying job as you are obtaining degrees and diplomas that give you specific knowledge and content for the career you want to pursue and is required of it. Also when you have gained degrees and diplomas you are looked at more, you become more noticeable than you were before and stand and out from others, giving you a better chance of landing a desired job. e.g. Actors who have been to top drama schools get easily noticed in auditions, by agents, managers, directors and other actors allowing them more opportunities to network which is what helps you get to the top in this industry today. People who do apprenticeships would be looked at less, and the ones who do A-levels are the 'special bunch'. Bringing historical views into this, it was said that it was a guarantee that you will have a higher than average paying job after completing your higher education cours...
