Refugee Children

Image result for refugee childrenA refugee is someone who has had to leave their home and are asylum seeking due to unfortunate situations from their home country which include; War or natural disaster forcing them to leave and find a haven. However, the process is not simple, or legal for that matter. European Governments do not provide for these kinds of situations, leading to children being separated from their families in order to be smuggled into safe countries by people who may have bad intentions. Usually, child refugees are not able to reunite with their families after all the terrible events and are sent to a shelter for under eighteens and have to try their best to communicate with others even if they cannot speak the native language. The government does little to help children reach their families. When they reach eighteen they are then released into the world to fend for themselves and make a life for themselves, it's not fair that these children have suffered in their home country and experienced things no child should including PTSD and are not received the proper attention and care. It seems the government doesn't seem to care whether they are prepared mentally for a life as a grown up and most of the time they are not able to transition from and to these kinds of mentality, they are forced to take on responsibilities that could lead them into more trouble and are left vulnerable.

Fugee focuses on Kojo who was made a child soldier on his eleventh birthday in Ivory Coast, and illegally few to the UK and was sent to a children refugee centre/shelter. Due to his conditions, he was forced to grow up, and that showed in his behaviour, his physical appearance didn't help either, his early development such as wisdom teeth and facial hair led the authorities to believe (or use this to their advantage) that he was eighteen or over. Although Kojo is not a real person, his story can be related to by many young refugee children who have had the same issues; staying in a hostel vulnerable to adults with evil motives.

This video looks at a real refugee who came to Britain as a child and has had to go out and make a life for himself once he reached eighteen...

The next video focuses on what a British child would go through if there was some kind of war in Britain; It begins with a normal child, happy and receiving attention from friends and family on her birthday, the video focuses on her face but you can see her surroundings and interpret what is going on, gradually you will see her child like happy go lucky manner dissolve. She begins blocking out everything around her as much as she can, creating a little bubble, she becomes quiet as people interact with her less as they are preoccupied with the news broadcasting martial law. Eventually, a war breaks out and she makes it through, in that process, she is separated from her family and is in a shelter. It is her birthday indicating it's been a whole year and it has damaged this child.
I believe this video was made to show people who are oblivious or ignorant of what is going on in the world, the video helps us to imagine these circumstances in Britain and we are able to 'connect' more with this due to the familiarity throughout the video...

The last video focuses on what happens after the first video for this girl. There's a certain point of this video where elder men yell at her 'British scum', and you wonder what did she do to deserve this? But this is actually the exact same thing that happens or has happened to refugee children when they seek refuge in European countries, they are harassed and face discrimination. How much should a child have to endure?
